Galston Bowling Club known locally as ‘The High Green’ was formed at it’s current location in 1864 albeit Bowling was played in the town from the late 1840’s onward.
The current clubhouse and grounds were originally purchased from the Duke of Portland at a subscribed fee of 20 Shillings (£1 in todays money) per member towards the overall cost of the new green which officially opened on 3rd July 1864. Some 2 years before the local Kilmarnock Football Club!!
There are a number of competitions played annually with one of the most popular being the ‘Valley League’ played between the 5 Irvine Vally Clubs with separate competitions for the Ladies and Gents of each participating club
One of the many artefacts & memorabilia relating to the club is a silver medal discovered in the museum safe of the local Masonic lodge (St Peter 331). The medal is inscribed ‘property of Galston Bowling Club 1854’ and to be played for annually between the two organisations during the bowling season. The annual game has been resurrected over the last few years to the mutual benefit of both organisations
